Tom ReplogleBio:
I am a self-taught photographer that enjoys photographing landscapes, aerials, and architecture. I was born in Virginia Beach, VA, to an art teacher and Navy pilot. I moved around extensively growing up and finally established roots in Texas over 15 years ago and have been living in the North Houston area ever since with my high school sweetheart and our 4 great kids. I have been drawn to photography since I was a kid. I had several film and Polaroid cameras growing up that I used to take pictures of my friends, pets, and the world around me. My grandfather was a hobbyist bird photographer, and I always enjoyed looking at his images of nature. He ultimately was a great inspiration for my photographic passion. In 2003, I started an aerial photography company, combining my love for photography and flying. I have worked on aerial photography projects for clients from around the world. Although I enjoy chasing light from an airplane, nothing beats getting down in nature to capture that beautiful light. Landscape photography to me is more than just beautiful imagery. The images serve to educate and help protect the world around us. I feel if we are constantly made aware of our Earth’s beauty, we’ll be more apt to protect it when it’s threatened. Besides landscapes and aerials, I enjoy shooting street, sports, architectural, and Miksang photography. Miksang is a Tibetan word that means “good eye” and represents a form a contemplative photography that I practice no matter what I’m photographing. I use both digital and film cameras (medium & large format). All digital images are shot in RAW format and edited to represent my vision of the scene at the time of capture. My printed photos are on archival quality papers, using archival inks, and should last over 100 years. My metal prints should last just as long. His artwork today reflects his life experience and consists of materials common to him. He has used many types of materials to get texture in his work. He is an experimental artist and works with a mix of materials to create his pieces. |
