Chairs of the Past, May 2016.

Pastel on board; 23 1/2" high x 19" wide, dimensions include the frame.

Location, Varner-Hogg Plantation,
Brazoria County.

Chairs of the Past will be on display at the re-opening of the DaVinci Artists Gallery along with Liendo Oaks (of the same size) and other landscapes.

Visit Barbara's page here to view Liendo Oaks.
When asked about her inspiration for this painting, Barbara answered, "The chairs made me think about the people who lived and worked there. This scene was at one of the side buildings. In my younger days, I was very drawn to painting tea cups, shoes and chairs. Only recently did it occur to me that those objects belonged to someone who was missing. The sets had a lonely feel, but I could never put my finger on the meaning. My paintings for the most part are done from photographs I have taken."

The Work in Progress

Barbara Cooledge earned her B.F.A. in painting and printmaking from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1981, and she earned her M.F.A. in painting from Boston University in 1986. For her thesis exhibition, Barbara created large scale nonobjective and expressionistic work. She also did etching and intaglio.

Mike Williams is creating a custom artwork security gate for a client's doorway. Feast your eyes on a visual treat as Mike shows us the work in progress.
Mike Williams creates mostly 3d sculptural works and wall hanging plants, fish and wildlife, along with some abstracts, some functional knives, axes and spears. Mike is a multi-talented man and when asked about his other interests, he responded, "I hunt with compound bow, blackpowder and shotgun; I fish mostly freshwater and some saltwater; I study and teach Shin Shin Jujitsu."

The Gallery was wet from floor to ceiling.
Mold remediation continues while we wait for insurance adjusters to do whatever it is that they do. The DaVinci Artists are anxious to be back in the Gallery, awaiting the re-opening and the next artists' reception. I can tell you that the reopening will not happen on June 3 as we had hoped. Now we are hoping to be open in July.

Every cloud has a silver lining, so it is said, and if this cloud has a silver lining it will be that the DaVinci Artists are using this time to create new works for the future grand re-opening of The DaVinci Artists Gallery in Tomball.

Looking toward that event, I will be sharing some of the new works by the DaVinci Artists over the next few days and weeks. I hope you will follow the blog and stay abreast of new works and be prepared to see new works in person at our next First Friday reception (date to be announced).

Stay tuned to the blog for photos of the newest metal works of Mike Williams.

Into each life, some rain must fall.

The bad news is that the DaVinci Artists Gallery flooded from above during the April storms. The ceiling, walls, and floor are in remediation and rebuild. The wall cabinets and pedestals took on water and had to be removed. Computers, printers, and digital equipment were waterlogged and damaged since they were in the direct path of ceiling leaks. All in all, the water damage was much worse than we initially thought.

Unknown to anyone, the roof drains couldn't handle the 15-20 inches of rain that was falling during the storms. Once the roof drains could handle the flow, water drained off the roof for the next two or three days--that is, the water that had not already found its way into the gallery space below.

The good news is that the majority of the DaVinci Artists' paintings escaped damage. The Artists of Texas featured art in the center of the gallery escaped any damage. For that we are grateful, but we do empathize with those who had works damaged.

Grand Reopening June 3 (maybe not)

We hope to have a Grand Reopening of the gallery on June 3 which is the First Friday in June 2016. We will keep you posted on our Home Page here at http://www.DaVinciArtistsGallery.com and also on our Facebook page. All events have been postponed until June. If you signed up for the April 21 event, Painting Van Gogh Sunflowers, the date has been pushed forward to June 23. We will keep you posted but please check here for updates as June approaches.
